Anita from Germany

Hi everyone!

Before joining this great platform in June 2019 I’d never have thought that being a Chatterbug tutor could be so much fun! It is an absolute pleasure meeting and getting to know students and joining them on their journey towards speaking German fluently.

I was born and grew up in Germany, lived in Perth/Australia for 5 years and in Cape Town/South Africa for 25 years. In 2018, I arrived back in Germany and currently live in Albstadt, which is located in the south of Germany, Baden-Württemberg, right between Stuttgart and Lake Constance. Here I am freelancing as a Virtual Assistant, Translator (English/German), Copywriter and Tutor.

My three children have all left the nest and endured countless years of my help with their homework in South Africa and Australia. They never moaned back then nor do they complain in retrospect, so I suppose my tutoring wasn’t too bad. Having worked as a school teacher before may have been helpful back then, and it certainly is useful now.

As you can guess from the above, I am one of the older tutors here.
Life has taught me what it’s like to be a foreigner.
I know just how important it is to freely improvise, imitate and talk in a „different tongue“ to get used to producing unfamiliar sounds (like ä, ö and ü or a mouthful of consonants stuck together) or to form seemingly weirdly constructed sentences. The point is to make many mistakes and keep learning. Just like children do. They don’t overthink things. They just talk! And then they practice, practice, practice. That’s what worked for me. And I am pretty sure that it will work for you, too.

Which is why I am happy to be here.
I am very keen for you to get the hang of speaking German in a relaxed environment.
Trust your brain. It will do the work while you keep practicing daily without stressing about it. Before you know it we’ll start chatting fluently and discussing not only exercises and grammar (if we really need to), but also other topics you may want to improve your vocabulary and eloquence in.
