Expression: Guten Rutsch!

German speakers have a pretty fun way of wishing a happy new year :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: The full version is ‘einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr!’ (‘have a good slide into the new year!’)⁣.

I’m actually not sure where this expression comes from. Does anyone know?

Guten Rutsch alle zusammen!
