Hi,
I am Stefan and I am studying “German Literature”. I moved to Berlin in August 2019 and before that I grew up and lived in a small town called Bielefeld - it is about two hours away from Cologne. Bielefeld is famous for not existing - this is the joke some students made in the 1980s and since then this is the most famous cliché about Bielefeld. Everytime I say where I come from, people say: “Ah, Bielefeld. The town that does not exist.” But because Germany´s most famous producer of pudding comes from there, I am cooking all kinds of puddings for desert.
I dreamed about moving to Berlin for a long, long time and people told me that they needed ´round about half a year to really arrive here. I felt at home immediately and I like to walk around and see new places, so I am promenading a lot (isn´t “promenading” a beautiful old fashioned word?)
Beyond that I like to read and I like good films, which means all films of the Coen Brothers at the moment; I tried to watch all of them and still am very busy watching these more than twenty films. I like the way language is used there - ironically, dramatically, funny, dreamy… My newest passion besides all that is learning Polish. It is a difficult language but really beautiful and so less is known about Polish culture outside of Poland itself. There are so much interesting authors, beautiful landscapes and Warsaw has a funny area with a huge amount of small clubs which are next to each other and which use every space they have to give you room to dance.
So this is a run through some of my interests. I am also jogging, cooking Asian food by myself with less success, like to listen to Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, La Roux and some lesser deep music from the 1990s… So I am happy to be here with you, to talk to you and to have lessons with you.
Here is a video about Bielefeld which is (by coincidence? ) made for learning German as well. It tells (nearly) all the facts that have to be known:
