This is a follow up of "Strong Verbs: Class 5", where we said:
Since German loves order, even the irregular verbs have some regularity. They sometimes follow certain patterns, so we classify them in classes. (dah!)
As seen in the previous chapter...
Class 1: ei → ie (bleiben → geblieben)
Class 2: ie → o (fliegen → geflogen)
Class 3: i → u (finden → gefunden)
Class 4: e-e → e-e (essen → gegessen)
Class 5: e → o (helfen → geholfen)
Strong Verbs: CLASS 6
a | → | a-en |
fahren | → | gefahren |
einladen | → | eingeladen |
tragen | → | getragen |
waschen | → | gewaschen |
schlafen | → | geschlafen |
lassen | → | gelassen |
halten | → | gehalten |
anfangen | → | angefangen |
This is the most extensive group. Just remember, verbs with "a" in their stem prefer the ending -en.
That is it! That was the last class of irregular participles we have for you. Well done!!!
