Hello, servus, and xin chào!
My name is Astrid, and I am 41 years old. I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Vienna, Austria, but I’ve always had itchy feet and a strong curiosity about the world beyond my home country. This curiosity led me to study Cultural and Social Anthropology and later to work for non-governmental and international organizations in development cooperation for over a decade (oops, am I really that old?).
At some point, my partner and I decided to take a leap: we bought an old 4x4 car, rebuilt it into a camper, and drove overland from Austria towards Indonesia. After traveling through more than 20 countries, the COVID pandemic stopped us, and somehow we ended up stranded in Vietnam. That was six years ago, and today I happily call Vietnam my home.
Besides German and English, I speak some conversational French and am currently learning Vietnamese - a true challenge! My tutoring experience started while I was a university student in Austria, where I tutored English to high school students. Since living in Vietnam, I’ve taught English to Vietnamese students in language centers as well as in public schools, and I’ve also worked as a German tutor at an international private school. As both a language learner and a tutor, I know that practice, patience, and encouragement really do make all the difference.
My lifelong passion is cats. I’ve been involved in animal welfare for most of my life and now run a cat shelter in Central Vietnam, which is both demanding and incredibly rewarding. Imagine all the cat cuddles I get. When I’m not with cats, I love spending my free time with fish - scuba diving is my favorite way to unwind.
At the end of the day, I enjoy meeting people from all over the world, and as a Chatterbug tutor, I get to do that while supporting them on their journey of learning German. So, maybe I’ll see you in a live session sometime.
