Chatterbug Book Club

Hey everybody!

I thought I would make a topic in which we could collect interesting reads in order to inspire people to read more books and try to come back to the nice and cozy feeling of curling up with a good book on the sofa and trying to escape our accelerated and technology based lifestyle.

Books in every language are welcome, maybe you can make a short description of what the book is about and whether you liked it or not?

Let me start with the following one.
I bought a book that has been widely recommended to me by friends. This weekend my husband will have surgery and I will have plenty of time in waiting rooms and I am anxious to get started with it.

It is called Where the Crawdads sing and is the first novel of American author Delia Owen.

It is about a girl who was abandoned in a marsh by her family and her coping with growing up and dealing with the outside/modern world.

It also has a criminal aspect to it since a murder happens which needs to be resolved.

This book has been on the New York Bestseller list for 150 weeks in a row and now it was made into a movie as well which was produced by Reese Witherspoon and is to be released in July of this year.

As soon as I finish reading it, I will give you an update on my opinion. Have any of you already read this book?

I would love to see more recommendations coming in and can not wait to find out about your favourites!

Have a lovely weekend,

Larissa

This is an awesome idea @Lari1108 !

I haven’t read yet, but it sounds very interesting. Talking about crime, I have a book I would like to recommend as well.

This is a thriller that will keep you up thinking you just want to read more :upside_down_face:. This author is just one of the best when it comes up to suspense.

Also, for the ones learning German, I recommend Hummeldumm. It’s perfect for a B1 level, and it is hilarious.

Thank you so much for your post Sandra! I know 2 older books by Tommy Jaud which were absolutely hilarious also!

By the way, I am halfway through the book I presented to you above and I am loving it. It is captivating and just very well written.

I am looking forward to more books :upside_down_face:

Thanks @Lari1108 and @27sp.sandra for those books
I haven’t read them yet, but they sound pretty interesting. Let’s see if I manage to get a copy.

I would like to recommand one of my favorite book among those I read recently, written in spanich : La sombra del viento (The Shadow of the wind), by Carlos Ruiz ZafĂłn!

It’s a thrilling book which enterweaves suspense, poetry, a love story, the fascination for litterature, all of it set in the historical events of Barcelona in the 20th century.

It’s the kind of book you cannot live aside once you’ve started reading the first pages. Just compelling  !

And if you liked it, you can carry on with the 3 others novels part of the tetralogy El Cementerio de los libros olvidados :
