Désambiguïsations

Hi dear community !

New week, new “désambiguïsation” !

Did you know that “papier” could take a different meaning when expressed in the plural form ?

Papier refers to the paper material or a sheet of paper, whereas papiers (plural form) defines some official documents like your passeport.

Example :

  • Mon fils dessine sur des feuilles de papier bleu.
  • L’officier de police m’a arrêtée dans la rue pour me demander mes papiers.

Here comes a little illustration to help you memorise it !

See you next week dear French learners

That’s a relief! It works exactly the same in Spanish: papel (piece of paper) and papeles (documents). The same in German: Papier and Papiere.
