French visual riddles : will you be able to decipher them?

Did you know that in French we’ve got a tradition of having fun making visual riddles ?

This is called a “Rébus”. Any idea what those images mean ?

Well, it refers to A HAT, of course, is that not so obvious ? ha ha ha  :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

“How do I come to that?” you may ask.
Look, it’s easy : take the sound of the first image (CHAT=cat) and the sound of the second image (PEAU=skin); put them together, and here’s the magical trick : you’ve got CHAPEAU (a hat). Voilà ! LE FRANCAIS EST MAGIQUE

YOUR TURN! Let’s see if you can decipher the next 3 ones :

  1. What does that Rébus mean ?

  2. What does that Rébus mean ?

  3. What does that Rébus mean ?

Any idea ?  :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Well done @Lari1108 for trying
“Tu donnes ta langue au chat ?” Are your giving your tongue to the cat ? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: :cat: A french saying to say “you’re giving up”

No, don’t, I’m sure you can do it. :muscle:

They are 3 different Rébus, with 2 images each.
Just try to say in french what the IMAGE 1 represents, and what the IMAGE 2 represents.
Put the 2 words together (WORD 1 + WORD 2), and see if the new word means something.

I’m confident you can find it !
Here’s a clue for the first one: if you’re a veterinarian, I’m sure you have to take care of this one sometimes.

Merci, @SylvainG for this post! I love this riddles, but like @Lari1108 I can’t figure them out hahaha .

The first one I thought, remarque + baguette? musique+ pain?

  1. cent + tee = santé?
  2. empreinte + ris = :upside_down_face: je ne sais pas.

J’aime les rébus !! Do they exist in other languages? I think we talked once about charades @27sp.sandra which are similar to rebus but without images and you said they didn’t exist in spanish! Do you have visual riddles in German @Lari1108 ?

Oh oh je crois que tu as trouvé le numéro 2, bravo ! :raised_hands: (cent + *thé) But I’ll let @SylvainG confirm :upside_down_face:
“Bonne année, bonne santé” is something we usually say in January! :tada: :confetti_ball:

That’s true @Amandine! I had a lot of fun with the ones we did. Thank you for the correction . Well, 2 out of 3, not bad .

Oui, Bravo @27sp.sandra
Tu as trouvé la 2 ! SANTÉ that’s it ! :raised_hands:
That’s a capital part in the best wishes at the beginning of the year indeed @Amandine :ok_hand:

For the first Rébus, you have to focus on the specific musical note shown on the picture. You’re nearly there !

For the third Rébus, you’re very close. Think of Neil Amstrong’s famous declaration when he walked on the moon. That’s the clue for the first word !

Keep trying. You’ll find the solutions !

Yeii :star_struck:. Thank you, @SylvainG for the clues.

I’m still not sure :upside_down_face:.

Super @27sp.sandra, you got the third one.
Oui, C’est Paris, mais bien sûr que c’est Paris ! Félicitations !
Neil Amstrong a dit “C’est un petit PAS pour l’homme, un bond de géant pour l’humanité”

For the first Rébus, is that really a DO note ?
You got me confused :joy:

Oh my! You’re right, that’s not DO :joy:

Sol + pains? = Serpent? :snake:

Is that a SOL note ? :joy:
You’re getting closer, and closer, but it is not un SERPENT !

Thank you, @Janina :hugs:.

hahaha I’m really lost with the musical note, please @SylvainG I need another clue. In Spanish, that could be called “corchea” or “semifusa”, but those in French + pains :upside_down_face: don’t fit.

Here is a hint for you : the musical notes in French are : do ré mi fa sol la si do :musical_note: :upside_down_face:
