Things you miss!

Most of you don’t live in the country where you were born and raised. Maybe you have even lived in different countries, and now you ended up in a completely different region of the world. :earth_africa: :earth_americas: :airplane: :desert_island:

What do you really miss from your home country or region? :face_with_monocle: :grinning:

On Wednesday, I had to drive to the Quito Airport. On the way to the airport - about four hours away from my little village - I was able to find the last Brezel :pretzel: in the only bakery in the country :scream: which produces this super tasty German product. Let’s see if I eat the Brezel or just keep it in my home as decoration :yum: :roll_eyes:

I miss Leberwurst, german bread, Broetchen, Nutella, because its sooo expensive here.
Walking the streets at night without being in danger, the cozy, nice feeling of December when Christmas is around the corner and spending time with family. I miss my friends and the countryside of my hometown and the german seasons.
Now with the Europameisterschaft going on, i miss warm summer nights watching soccer outside in some friends garden, drinking Radler and then driving the streets and honking the horn because Germany won.
And yes, i miss german punctuality and a lot of the things that people from other countries find annoying or obnoxious. :smiley:

Oh what a great question! I will try to write my answer in Spanish, but have to admit I don’t know all the vocabulary. I’ve put the words I don’t know in bold. :sweat_smile:

Extraño comer comida de mi estado. Soy de Texas. Somos comimos mucha carne de vaca y cerdo. Extraño las barbacoas con mis amigos. Somos comimos brisket, ribs, pulled pork, salchicas y hamburguesas. ¡También comimos verduras y frutas! Teníamos coleslaw (ensalada de repollo?) y las verduras a la barbacoa. Frutas típicas para una barbacoa son la sandía, melón, fresa y uvas. :blush:

  • Somos comimos --> comemos

  • brisket, ribs, pulled pork—> falda de res, costillas, carne de cerdo

  • Muy bien sí, ensalada de repollo

  • Frutas típicas–> Las frutas típicas

  • la sandía, melón, fresa y uvas --> el melón, la fresa y las uvas (Aquí tienes dos opciones o todas tienen artículo o ninguna).

  • ¡Qué buenas memorias! —> ¡Qué buenos recuerdos! - So, this one is interesting. As a matter of fact “memoria” is what our brain uses to collect information and “recuerdo” is more those moments and all you have collected in your memory thanks to your “memoria”. "Recuerdo is what you can remember and thanks to “la memoria” is that you’re abel to do it.

Ich vermisse am meistens meine Eltern und Freunde. Ich komme aus Bogotá und dort haben wir immer alle Arten von Obst, seh frisch und sehr lecker, das vermisse ich auch. Ich vermisse das Chaos im Stadt und wie schön ist Bogotá am Nacht, es hat so viele Lichte und man hat dieses Gefühl, dass alles dort möglich ist.

So eine gute Frage! Ich lebe schon eine Ewigkeit in Südafrika, aber ich vermisse immer noch deutsche Erdnussflips, Schaumküsse von Dickman und Fruchtgummis. Ach ja, auch Zuckerrübensirup gehört mit auf die Liste. Natürlich vermisse auch ich die langen, lauen Sommernächte, die herrliche Weihnachtszeit, Schnee, die alte Architektur und die Märkte in den deutschen Altstädten. Eine Radtour wäre auch mal wieder herrlich…

Diese Frage hat mich zum nachdenken gebracht!

Ich habe seit fast ein Jahr in der Schweiz gewohnt und komme aus Grossbritannien. Natuerlich vermisse ich meistens meine Familie und Freunden, aber ich vermisse auch viele Englandische Dinge! Ich weiss nicht genau auf Deutsch… aber ich vermisse Marmite, malt Essig, Heinz gebackt Bohnen, (gute) Cheddar kaese, verschiedene Chips, Bourbon Kekse, Englisch Fruestueck u.s.w… auch habe ich seit 3 Jahren kein Englisch Weinachtessen gegessen, hoffenlich dieses Jahr!

Vorher, habe ich in London gelebt daher vermisse ich in ein grosse Stadt leben!

Endlich, vermisse ich englische Prtionen Wein (was ist der Poont von 100ml?!)

Das ist lustig @elle.jarvis, talking about the wine quantity that is. Wieviel ml bekommt (kriegt) man in London wenn mann ein Glas Wein bestellt? :thinking: :wine_glass:
And by the way I would rather say “schlussendlich/ letztendlich/ zu guter Letzt” as a translation for “finally” :wink:

Wir bekommen 250ml fuer ein grosses oder 175ml fuer ein kleines. Natuerlich nehmen wir meistens ein grosses Glas! :rofl: :clinking_glasses:
