A fun way to practice vocabulary!

Hello English learners!,

Have you heard of ‘Ad Libs’? It’s an all-time favorite game of mine that I enjoyed playing with friends! Basically, it’s a two or more player game where a text has several blanks in each sentence. To fill in the blanks you have to add adjectives, nouns, verbs, etc. in order to complete a story. :memo:

Do you have any games you play to practice vocabulary? :catbee: :bouquet: :hatching_chick:

:writing_hand:t5: I will be posting unique Chatterlibs suitable for all levels throughout this month. Most of which will be Easter themed.

:envelope_with_arrow: Enjoy and feel free to share your stories in a message or video below!

Here is mine! :face_with_hand_over_mouth: :joy:
I am so excited for spring this year! I’ve been doing a lot of brainstorming to prepare!
I have already cooked Easter dinner for everyone. I made shrimps with camembert, cauliflower with tripe and a durian pie. It smells awful!
I hid 897 Easter eggs outside. Each egg is filled with soy sauce inside! I hope everyone has a surprising Easter!

HAHAHAH this is why I love this game
Also, I just looked up a durian pie, it looks great! Have you made one before? :eyes:

Actually I thought I made up the name “durian pie” haha! :face_with_hand_over_mouth: I knew this fruit had a terrible smell so it went well with my “smelly menu” but you’re right this pie looks delicious!! :yum:

I love Easter! One of the main reason is the hunt that we have for chocolate eggs!
this Easter though, the eff hunt was a little strange…
I was in the park with Pepe, and we were hunting for eggs. We came across a tree that was shaped like a robot, and decided to climb up it.

As we climbed futher up, we noticed the branches were purple with blue spots! When we looked up, we could see something shiny sitting on a branch. We hoped it was a chocolate egg!

The higher we got, the more we would find a chocolate trae. After climbing for what felt like thousands years, we reached the shiny object. We picked up the round box and opened it. A chocolate egg was inside!

We couldn’t wait to taste it! But after the first bit, we noticed it was the flavor of pickles! What a shame…
Luckily, when we got down, there was a basket at the bottom, filled with 100 of our favorite chocolate eggs!
Come to think f it, it wasn’t such a bad Easter after all… :rabbit: :hugs:

@ellimaus Have you seen these Chatterlibs activities? I thought it might be fun for you to try to complete some stories with your own ideas!

I look forward to seeing what you can come up with.

Hi @JoAnn, unfortunately I have seen your nice exercises only today. But I had fun to create the last two. Thanks for this exercises! And thanks @Maddy for the hint.
Here are my examples:

It’s Easter Sunday, and time for a small feast. We decorate the table with brightly colored Easter eggs that we painted the night before. The table is set with our best plates and cups. We are having baked a rabbit for Easter dinner, with red cabbage and baked potatoes on the side. Then we have a special rainbow cake and some colorfully decorated cookies for dessert. What a great day!

My cubicle is small. It is the smallest cubicle in the office. I have a flatscreen on my desk next to a dimmed lamp. In my drawer, I also have some pens. One time a coworker tried to find a letter in a mess on my desk. I said to him, „Hey! How would you like it if I search your stuff? I’ll do it if you don’t leave.“
My one complaint about my cubicle is that is useless. I think everyone here at the office complains about this. We also complain that our cubicle is too hot. If we had money in our budget, my boss could purchase some air conditioners to help alleviate this problem. Our boss doesn’t understand. His office is the size of New York! He has enough room in his office to put a cattle farm and Disney Land in there!

Hi @Ellimaus, well done! I enjoyed reading your Chatterlibs

I have one small correction for #1 -
We are having baked a rabbit for Easter dinner, with red cabbage and baked potatoes on the side. - Here you can simply say “baked rabbit”, because “baked” is the adjective to describe the rabbit.

Some small corrections for #2 -
One time a coworker tried to find a letter in a the mess on my desk. - Here the definite article is better because you a talking about the specific mess on your desk.

…„Hey! How would you like it if I searched your stuff? I’ll do it if you don’t leave.“ - Here you are using the 2nd conditional, which needs ‘would’ and the past simple.

I love your last sentence! A cattle farm and Disneyland, for a little work, and a little play! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Well done, Beate.
